Detailing Worlds origin
DetailingWorld was launced by John Hole, an enthusiastic detailer that later ended up developing Zaino. The forum was launced in October 2005 with a moderate group of members. In the following years (before Facebook developed Group-pages), Detailing World quickly grew into a meeting place for many like-minded detailers and valeters. Today it is one of the biggest online communities in the world of detailing with (at the time of writing) 88.701 members. Not all of these members are active, and some might be duplicate accounts, but on average it has about 500 to 1000 visitors online at any given moment. The highest number of online members was 4996 at 27-03-2016.
Detailing World and sponship
DetailingWorld doesn’t just comprise out of members, a part of the forum is filled with manufacturers, webshops, distributors and resellers. These are paid members who have their own exclusive section on the forum where they can put up posts about deals and other information that is not allowed on other sections in the forum. There is also the possibility to advertise on the forum via banners. The income from this sponsorship is used to pay for maintenance and hosting of the forum. Detailing World is also sponsor of Waxstock and banners can sometimes be seen on different detailing events or bigger car meetings.
The online community
Detailing World might be much older then the Facebook groups that are available today, but it has felt its impact. The amount of members on detailing group at Facebook are growing, and some count over 18.000 members. However, the online forum is still a large place with information and an ideal place for those who are not very active on/with Facebook. Other social media sites, such as Twitter, haven’t really proven themselves to be competition. Seeing as Instagram doesn’t allow for much interaction after uploading a video, it is frequently used to host images, but not as a competitor for online communities.
DetailingWorld has seen many competitors with a similar setup, but only Autogeek can be consider a rival. This is however very relative, since Autogeek is based in America and Detailing World is mostly filled with members from England and Europe.
Digital information
Detailing World can be found via DetailingWorld.co.uk. They also have a Facebook group (with roughly 13.000 members) which is substantially smaller. Their banners can sometimes be seen on car care events.
