This accessory allows you to safely wash off dirt and grime from a surface with a minimum risk of creating swirls. Thus preserving the finish you achieved after polishing and refining the surface.

How does a washmitt look like

Like the name implies, the washmitt looks like a mitt. A kind of glove you can put your hand in. You then wipe the washmitt over the surface to wash the surface. Washmitts can have many different colors, this has nothing to do with how good or safe they are. A manufacturer is free to add color to his design. Washmitts can have a very fluffy and even hairy look, but can also be made from smaller loops or microfibre. Some even have a big thick dreadlock-like noodles.

Why use a washmitt

Washmitts are made from carefully sourced materials that have as little effect on the surface as possible. After you’ve polished and refined a vehicle, you don’t want to ruin it by created new washmarks, swirls, cobwebs and other surface imperfections. Together with the 2 bucket method, you can use a washmitt to minimize the risk of new marks. It works like this because the washmitt lifts dirt up from the surface, keeping it away from the surface.

A sponge is a very common tool to wash a vehicle, but sponges don’t lift the dirt and sand up. Moving a sponge over the surface will drag the dirt it catches over the surface, creating new marks in your paint. A washmitt is designed to lift that dirt up, away from the paint. To prevent it from being dragged over the surface. Thus minimizing the risk of creating surface imperfections.

Are washmitts perfect

No. Although a good washmitt minimizes the risk of surface imperfections, it doesn’t prevent them completely. It is not flawless. Other factors at play can be the amount of times you rinse out your washmitt, the cleanliness of the buckets you are using, the lubrication of the shampoo you are using and much more. Your washmitt will also wear, and needs to be replaced at some point. A washmitt is not perfect, but it helps a lot. Unfortunately, there is no perfect solution.
