What is a leather cleaner

Written by:

A leather cleaner is a specially designed product to clean leather in a gentle and safe way. The product is designed to remove dirt and grime without having any effect on the material.

Why use a leather cleaner

Normal cleaners are designed to remove oils and grease without having to be to careful with the surface underneath. Leather cleaners have to be able to remove dirt, grease and oils without affecting the natural material itself. This can be compared with cleaning your hands, if you have very stubborn dirt on your hands it is difficult to clean this off without having a very dry feeling afterwards.

Types of leather cleaner

There are a few different type of leather cleaner, the difference is mostly due to the way it works and how it is applied.

Foam cleaner

This product often comes in a spray can. Once applied to the material it forms a foamy layer, which will clean by leaving it to soak for a little while. After this time it can be removed by wiping it off with a damp cloth.

Liquid spray-on

This liquid product can just be sprayed on the material and then either agitated by a brush or wiped off with a damp cloth. This product is a bit more economic, but is also more likely to get into places where it is more difficult to remove it from.
